Areas of Experience
Pat has more than 25 years of legal experience, with 19 years of experience as a corporate officer and the general counsel for 2 public companies, one a financial institution and the other a technology driven, diversified, manufacturing and distribution company. These leadership positions provide her with the skill set required to tackle in-house and business issues that your company faces, whether your company is small, medium, or large in size. Pat is a true legal and business generalist.
Pat’s most recent experience as an in-house counsel is with LESCO, Inc. (a one-half billion dollar, publicly traded NASDAQ company). LESCO is a vertically integrated direct marketer of professional turf products (pesticides, fertilizers, specialty chemicals and specialty agricultural products) and equipment for golf, lawn care and retail markets, operating company-owned stores in 37 states, distribution centers and manufacturing facilities for a diverse base of 130,000 global customers. At LESCO, Pat was a business manager who used her legal training to complement the operational needs of the diverse businesses of her employer, while maintaining legal compliance. Pat was responsible for company-wide regulatory compliance. She was an integral member of the company’s management team. She is accustomed to and enjoys a fast paced, constantly changing business environment and the need for “customer service” from both in-house and outside legal counsel for the client company’s management team and employees, as well as the client company’s customers. Pat is a “hands on”, team-oriented, individual, who prefers to “roll her sleeves up” and personally handle the work to be done. (Pat’s position at the conclusion of her career with LESCO was that of Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary.)
A personal asset which sets Pat apart from many business attorneys is both her passion for companies that are involved in the field of science and technology and her work experience in science and technology. Pat’s undergraduate degree is a B.S. in Microbiology from The Ohio State University. Prior to law school, she worked in the field of Microbiology as a Registered Clinical Microbiologist (MASCP) for 3 years, with 2 of those years at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Pat used this prior educational and work experience while she was employed by LESCO, Inc. Therefore, Pat has experience in the fields of biotechnology (both medical and plant sciences), manufacturing technology, technology protection, and technology licensing.
Pat received her J.D. from The Cleveland State University in 1979. She was admitted to practice law in the State of Ohio and before the Federal District Court for the Northern District of Ohio in 1979. She is a member of the American and Ohio Bar Associations. Prior to leaving her in-house practice, she was a member of the American Corporate Counsel Association (now Association of Corporate Counsel America), with significant contribution to the current Northeast Ohio Chapter (a 13 county area), where she was a co-founder and served as a director for 9 years, president for 1 year, and vice president for 2 years. During this time, she was also a member of the American Society of Corporate Secretaries.
